Physiotherapy or physical therapy refers to a natural means of recovery and rehabilitation via movement, exercise and manual therapy. It was used as far back as ancient Greece. In the literature, Plato and Hippocrates used physical therapy in the form of aqua therapy, gymnastics and athletics where the goal was to develop the physical body. Physiotherapy has come a long way since then although the goal is the same; rehabilitating, developing or improving the physical body which in turn helps improve mental health and overall well-being. Physiotherapy is used to treat various conditions including chronic pain, pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation, dizziness and headaches, arthritis, vestibular conditions such as vertigo, and concussions. It also encompasses sport specific training and general strength and conditioning.
